Grand opening of Cerro Pabellón, the first geothermal plant in South America and the first in the world to be built at 4,500 metres above sea level.
The plant, located in the Atacama desert (Ollagüe district), consists of 2 units, each with gross installed power of 24 MW. It is owned by the company Geotérmica del Norte S.A. – GDN, a joint venture between Enel Green Power Chile (83.65%) and Enap (16.35%). Once it is fully operational, the plant will be capable of generating approximately 340 GWh per year.
All of the emergency systems, consisting of inverters and 110 Vdc rectifiers with currents up to 800 A, were engineered and manufactured by LEVER.
